Jubilee appoints Matiang'i as deputy party leader and 2027 presidential flagbearer
Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, while addressing the media, said the party had officially received and endorsed Matiang’i’s request to run for the top seat.
Jubilee has placed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i at the heart of its political rebuilding plan after confirming him as its deputy party leader and giving him the presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
The decision was reached during the party’s National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday, where leaders said the move signals a new phase for the party as it works to reclaim its space in national politics and strengthen its network across the country.

Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, while addressing the media, said the party had officially received and endorsed Matiang’i’s request to run for the top seat.
“We have received and formally accepted Dr Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” he said.
Kioni added that the former CS would also take up a senior role in the wider opposition movement.
“We have appointed Dr Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward,” he stated, explaining that he will also serve as the party’s representative in the United Opposition.
According to Kioni, the NEC also used the meeting to set out a detailed plan to reorganise party structures, revive local offices, and reconnect with supporters.
“We now move out to revamp our party, open branches, and reach out to our members and new members,” he explained, noting that more programmes will be revealed soon.
The committee filled leadership positions in Parliament as part of the reorganisation.
Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama will now serve as Whip in the National Assembly, while Senator James Lomenen takes up the role of Senate Whip.
Jubilee also used the session to offer sympathy to Raila Odinga's family following the loss in their home.
“Jubilee Party extends our condolences to the family of Mama Ida Odinga. We stand with the family,” Kioni stated.
He also said the party will review its position in the Azimio coalition carefully, pointing out that a sudden exit may affect some legislators.
He cautioned that leaving the alliance could come with “legal implications” for certain Parliament members.
